Election Summary: TO THE POINT
By: Kaleb Dorale
This election summary will get straight to the point, with none of that filler information nobody wants to read. Returning former President Donald J. Trump versus rerunning Joe Biden, who beat Trump back in 2020, which began a political battle for the 2024 election. The public already knew Trump and his conviction as a felon for charges such as fraud and public indecency.
Bidens main points in his political campaign were:
Cut Social Security & Medicare
Berate restrictions on voting rights
Call out efforts of Republican State Governments on limiting the rights of LGBTQ community members
Voted to arrange the abortion rights.
Trump's main points in his campaign were:
Allowing state governments to delegate their laws and rights surrounding abortion rights, and not setting a federal mandated law.
Increase Coal, Oil, and Natural Gas Production
Decrease the price of groceries
Deport all undocumented immigrants
The race took a dramatic turn on July 13, with an assassination attempt on Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. Although it was not fatal, he came away with an injury to the ear. Unfortunately, the same shot Trump took to the ear killed an innocent bystander just attending the rally. Secret Service agents eliminated the young man who shot at the Former President and killed an innocent bystander. Later, on September 15, gunshots were heard around Trump while he was golfing at the International Golf Club which permitted the FBI to commit a perimeter check. The FBI found a gun in a nearby bush which led to the FBI finding and apprehending the suspect.
Meanwhile, Biden was doing rallies and speeches as normal, but during the first press conference, people began questioning Biden. The press conference wasn’t good, with both parties having faults. During the conference, people mostly began to observe Biden's stumbling, mumbling, and forgetfulness. Making him appear weak compared to his confident and headstrong opponent. The effects were irreversible, the damage had been done, but Biden continued making speeches and attending rallies. Finally, after nothing would work, Biden withdrew from the political race claiming it was because the initial entry into the race would distract Democrats thus leading him to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris. A virtual vote was held for who would take over for Biden, with Kamala winning over 90% of the votes, becoming the first Asian-American Black woman to win the nomination.
So with Biden out and Harris in, the race was back in full throttle. Harris held the same point of view as Biden and began her rallies. Concerns began to arise about her plans’ lack of information and details. Original polls predicted that Harris and Trump would be neck-to-neck to the end. The final poll showed vastly different results. Trump won by a landslide, in both the National Popular and Electoral College votes.
