Life

By: Savanna Proffit

Life is days long gone and still to come,

Days full of sunshine and rain,

Wind blowing and fog rolling in the mountains,

Clouds accumulating, and hail pounding the ground.

Days of Thunder clashing and lightning flashing,

But even through the darkness, the light will find a way.

Life is birth and death;

A newborn's happy cries,

A loved one's tears as they bury their dead,

The first outfit, picture, and kiss on the forehead,

The last hug, smile, and breath only live in memories.

Life is found in Jesus;

To believe or not?

The question of what happens when one dies,

Heaven or hell?

Hopefully Heaven and eternity but,

Only if one puts faith in the Only One who provides it.

There is only one way.

Life is time in the outdoors;

Hiking, fishing, hunting, camping.

Deer prancing and birds spreading their wings,

Trees standing tall, trails winding through hills,

Rabbits bouncing through the undergrowth,

Elk bugling their centuries-old oath.

Life is fun;

Full of excitement,

Love, friendship, and meaning.

Goofing off with a friend,

Laughing at siblings who are embarrassing themselves,

Giggling at parents trying to act like today's teens,

Going to summer camp,

Receiving a friend's postcard with a pretty stamp.

Life is hard;

Pain, heartache, struggles,

Days of rock bottom and tears in pillows,

Breakups, loss, death,

Heated arguments and crushed dreams.

Life is happiness;

Days of carefree play outside

Nice dinners surrounded by family,

Birthday parties and vacations,

Singing worship around the campfire,

Reunions and quality time with friends.

Life is full of hopes and dreams,

Prayers and beliefs.

Life is full of risks and payoffs,

Crash and burns.

Life is a gift

Given to every person by God.

A gift that no one has to earn.
