To Expect

by Austin Corbin

When they sent it out, I expected

The letter

The rest of my year

When received, I expected

The letter

What they chose

In opening, I expected

The letter

It left me pleasantly surprised

The rest of my year

Set in stone

Relief falls over me

The rest of my year

Set in stone

A quaint small space

The rest of my year

Set in stone

People I will come to know

The rest of my year

Set in stone

I will never let them know

It was not exactly as I wished

Not everything I wrote

However, now Iā€™m standing here

It is just as I never knew I hoped
